A STARTING POINT, WITH CONTEXT
How the planning
ranges work.
Our project planner uses published national labor benchmarks and the measurements you enter. These are broad planning ranges, not our confirmed rates or local market quotes. Sources were checked on October 12, 2026.
| Eligible work | Labor benchmark |
|---|---|
| HomeGuide — Interior painting labor ↗ | $1–$3 per sq. ft. of wall coverage |
| HomeGuide — Vinyl installation labor ↗ | $1–$5 per sq. ft. of floor area |
| HomeGuide — Toilet installation labor ↗ | $150–$450 per standard toilet |
| HomeAdvisor — Handyman pricing ↗ | $60–$125 per labor hour |
What goes into the calculation?
- Painting: Two times the room’s length plus width, multiplied by wall height. This gives gross wall area, without subtracting windows and doors. The range covers walls only, for a single rectangular room with sound surfaces and walls up to 10 feet high.
- Vinyl flooring: Room length multiplied by width. The range assumes a ready, level subfloor and standard installation, without stairs or complex patterns.
- Toilet replacement: The number of standard floor-mounted toilets at an existing plumbing location. Fixtures, parts, haul-away, relocation, and repairs are extra.
- Other handyman work: An optional labor-hour scenario that you choose, multiplied by a national hourly benchmark. The hours are not an assessment of the work; Doug must confirm them.
When a personal review is better
We do not automatically price custom remodels, unusual measurements, damaged surfaces, complicated access, specialist work, or projects without enough information. Minimum charges can affect smaller jobs, and South Jersey conditions may differ from national benchmarks.
What gets saved?
Your project notes include the preliminary range, calculation, assumptions, source, and the disclaimer below. The notes and photos are saved with your request. The form reports whether the request reached Housecall Pro, and any optional AI photo review is included in the saved notes.
Instant Estimates combines published labor benchmarks with optional AI-assisted photo review. All online pricing is strictly for budgeting purposes, not a finalized estimate or a commitment to provide service. Doug Does Anything will review your details, photos, and measurements. If an in-person visit is not needed, we will send a finalized estimate with confirmed scope and pricing. If a visit is needed, we will arrange it before finalizing the estimate. Materials, taxes, permits, disposal, travel or minimum charges, and additional repairs are excluded from the online labor range unless expressly included. Submitting a request does not authorize work or book an appointment.
